For those in Deport, who care about what happens at First Presbyterian in Paris - The opportunities I've had in the last 10 months, to get to know some of the residents from the New Hope Center, have been very rewarding. Getting to know them, & asking them to share their stories has been enlightening. One thing I've noticed, they don't share their story w/out being asked (probably for fear of being judged, given the reputation of many church people), & then they won't share more than a little, unless you show that you care at least a little. I can tell you this - I'm much less judgmental of homeless people than I was a year ago.
“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death." by Peter in Acts 2:22-25a.
Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds— his name is the Lord— be exultant before him. Father of orphans and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. Psalm 68:4-5 NRSV
